I still can’t get Salma Hayek’s Sports Illustrated cover shoot off my mind. I mean, she looked smoking—and it’s rare that I, an avid one-piece wearer, would ever be swayed to step outside of my very modest bathing suit comfort zone. But alas, Hayek’s sizzling looks have inspired me to try some pretty itty-bitty styles—espeically an iteration that’s the sexiest take on one of summer 2025’s biggest (and breeziest) trends.
Hayek bared it all in a slew of bikinis, including a metallic green number, as well as a chainmail bottom with no top (daring!!), but the style that’s penciled into my memory is her luxe-looking crochet two-piece from Alameda Turquesa. It was beautiful and sexy at the same time, with intricate crochet detailing along the bust. Naturally, it got me thinking: crochet is poised to be a major trend this season. After all, it’s right in line with the Chloé girl revival that’s shining a light on quintessential ‘70s style. And with Hayek rocking the look, crochet is back and bigger than ever.
Of course, most people probably think of cover-ups, dresses, or sweaters when they hear the word crochet. But, Hayek ushered in the sexiest way to wear the sheer material—a.k.a., not waterside but rather in the water, and I’m totally on board.
